We bought a Zoo pass during our time in Melbourne that allowed us to visit all 3 major Zoos in Victoria. We had one left to visit before we move to Brisbane. So on Monday we headed to the Werribee Open Range Zoo. David let us borrow his car again.
The first thing we did was take a tram that allows us to go into the animal's habitats. It was super neat to see the animals up close. The kids got a front row seat on the tram.
who knew that Australia was a place that camels live!!
One of the coolest animals to see up close were the rhinos...not only because they are Matt's favorite animals, but because the horn was SO large. I have never seen one so close before.
There were several cool adventure paths for the kids to take throughout the zoo
and fun trees to climb.
One of our favorite parts of the zoo were the hippos. We made sure to hear the keeper talk on the hippos. We learned a lot about the hippos. They have huge teeth.
Each of the 3 Zoos in Victoria have really neat creative play areas for children. Werribee Zoo didn't disappoint. There was a helicopter with a bunch of wild animals that might be seen on an African Savannah. The kids had a blast rescuing zebras, lions, and cheetahs. They each had binoculars and walkie-talkies to talk to each other.
This was a medical tent where Derek tried to "fix" up a lion.
