Mt. Cook - Hooker Valley Track

Mt. Cook is a stunning 3,754m tall (12,316 ft). It was a stunning sight to see. We were blessed with good weather because there were not many clouds in the way. The Hooker Valley Track was my favorite hike that we did in New Zealand!! It heads up the Hooker Valley and crosses three swing bridges to the Stocking Stream ending with a view of the Hooker Glacier. After the 2nd swing bridge, Mt. Cook dominates the valley and the view is incredible. The swing bridges were incredible. Only 20 people could be on the bridge at a time. They definitely moved back and forth as you walked. It was very windy during the hike so we had to hold onto our hats. We also hiked down to Hooker Lake and saw some floating icebergs. The kids were even able to pick up some ice that had broken off the icebergs. Derek ate some of the ice. The kids enjoyed throwing rocks into the lake. The lake is gray and very cold from the glacier run off.

If you look closely you can see the first swing bridge just above Derek's head.

View from the bridge.  It was very windy!

One of my favorite family photos from our trip!

Walking back to the trailhead
Derek wanted to stop and touch the water in the stream. It was cold but crystal clear!
