We drove out to Amherst, MA (2 hours from Pops and Grammy's house) to visit the Eric Carle Picture book Museum. It was a great museum for kids with plenty of opportunity for interactive hands on activities. The kids loved the scavenger hunt, which allowed them to view all the exhibits in the museum. They had to find all the items the caterpillar ate in the book
The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We watched a 30 minute documentary on Eric Carle's life and learned how he makes his pictures and where he comes up with ideas for his books. It was very informative.
There was a cool exhibit featuring Robert McKloskey (author One Morning in Maine, Blueberries for Sal and Make Way for Ducklings). These were some of my favorite books as a kid!
The museum also had an art room where the kids got to do a fun art project.
The kids got to design and create their own stamps and patterns.
Grammy bought the kids each a book written by Eric Carle from the book store.
Later that night we went out to eat at Cafe Escadrille with Great Auntie Elsie, Grammy and Pops, Patrick and Katie and family, and Dana and Hannah. We got dressed up and it was very fun. Rylie LOVED getting fancy and eating at a fancy restaurant.
We missed Daddy though.
