Gold Coast and Daisy Hill Koala Sanctuary

There are 2 popular places to go to the beach near Brisbane, just north and south of Brisbane. The Sunshine Coast is north of Brisbane and the Gold Coast is south of Brisbane. We visited the Sunshine Coast when we went to Mudjimba and Stradbroke Island. So we wanted to check out the Gold Coast. This year the Commonwealth Games were held on the Gold Coast which made us even
more curious about the Gold Coast.
Kookaburra Rylie spotted during our hike. She is always spotting these birds!

In the far distance is the Gold Coast.

Here is the mascot for the Commonwealth Games

This sign was next to a set of exercise equipment along the footpath next to the beach. This sign is directly a result of Genevieve and David's research. SO COOL!!!

We stopped for lunch and an ice cream treat before heading to the beach. It was raining on and off during the day so when the sun came out we hit the beach. The water wasn't too cold, but it was windy so we decided not to fully go in the water.

A picture by the iconic Surfers Paradise sign. It is one of the popular beaches.

On the way back to Brisbane from the Gold Coast we stopped off at Daisy Hill Koala Sanctuary. It is run by the Queensland Government. It had 4 female koalas and 1 male koala. We learned so much about koalas and how to protect them.

Rylie was learning how much eucalyptus leaves a koala eats on a daily basis, 500 g. She had to measure our 500 grams of leaves into the scale. Koalas do not eat much each day, which is one of the reasons they do not have much energy and sleep all day long. Eucalyptus leaves are poisonous, but Koalas can eat them.

There was also an area where you could play vet with koalas and take care of them. It was fun!
